President

John McNaughton

John McNaughton serves as President of Families Matter, Inc., where he has provided visionary leadership for over 13 years, overseeing operations across all four Maine locations. Under his guidance, the organization has expanded its reach while maintaining its core commitment to creating family-like environments where individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities can thrive.

 

John brings extensive business leadership experience to his role, including senior management positions as Director of National Contracts for Pilgrim’s Pride and Northeast Regional Sales Manager for Gold Kist Inc., where he managed broker agencies across multiple states. As an entrepreneur, he helped establish, grow, and ultimately sell Atlantic Sales Corp., a successful food service sales and marketing agency, demonstrating his ability to build lasting partnerships.

 

His business acumen, combined with his commitment to Families Matter’s mission, continues to drive the organization’s growth and impact across Maine.

Emeritus Executive Director

Edward “Ed” McNaughton

Ed McNaughton serves as Executive Director of Families Matter, Inc., a role he has held for over 25 years since co-founding the organization in 1994. As one of the original incorporators and founding visionaries, Ed has guided the organization’s remarkable growth from a small, parent-led initiative serving four individuals to a comprehensive program supporting nearly 100 adults across four central Maine locations.

 

A lifelong Maine resident born in Augusta and raised in Hallowell, Ed brings 40 years of business ownership experience through McNaughton Brothers Construction Corp., combined with 8 years of U.S. Marine Corps service. His diverse background includes 18 years as a Highway Engineering Technician for the Maine Department of Transportation, providing valuable operational expertise during Families Matter’s critical development phases.

 

Ed is also active in his faith community, having been instrumental in establishing the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Augusta area, demonstrating his lifelong commitment to building supportive communities. His long-term leadership has been instrumental in building the stable, family-centered culture that defines Families Matter today.

Executive Director and Board Member

Victoria Watkins

Victoria Watkins is the Executive Director and a Board Member of Families Matter, Inc., where she brings four decades of nonprofit leadership experience to guide the organization’s mission. In her dual role, she provides strategic oversight while ensuring day-to-day operations maintain the highest standards of care and support.

 

A lifelong Maine resident, Victoria previously served 27 years as Executive Director of the Augusta Housing Authority, where she helped over 650 individuals and families—many with disabilities—access affordable housing through successful Family Self-Sufficiency and Home Ownership programs. Her extensive experience managing federally funded programs and working directly with individuals with disabilities made Families Matter a natural next chapter after her 2014 retirement.

 

Victoria’s hands-on leadership style and deep understanding of both operational challenges and mission-driven rewards ensure Families Matter continues to provide exceptional support while maintaining organizational excellence. Her commitment to Maine’s disability community drives her continued dedication to creating meaningful opportunities for independence and empowerment.

Dennis Guerrette

Dennis co-founded and operates two successful Maine-based businesses: STC New England LLC (18 tanning salons employing 150 people) and SC New England LLC (8 Sport Clips Haircuts locations employing 65 people) across Maine and New Hampshire.

 

Armed with a bachelor’s degree in economics and an MBA in Finance from Brigham Young University, Dennis brings essential business acumen and financial oversight to the board. His experience in multi-location business operations, employee management, and financial planning directly supports Families Matter Inc’s growth across four service locations.

 

Dennis’s commitment to Families Matter Inc is deeply personal—he serves to honor his developmentally challenged brother, who passed away before these kinds of services were available. This personal connection drives his passionate advocacy for ensuring current and future generations have access to the support and community his brother never received.

 

As a father to six children and grandfather to seven, Dennis understands the importance of family support systems and works to ensure that Families Matter Inc continues to serve as an extended family for the individuals and families who depend on our services.

 

Board Member

Bridget McCabe

Bridget McCabe serves on the Board of Directors at Families Matter, Inc., bringing over 40 years of leadership experience in human services and disability advocacy. A Licensed Social Worker currently living in Falmouth, Maine, Bridget has played a pivotal role in program development, community-based housing, and promoting independence and inclusion throughout her career.

 

Growing up in Farmingdale, Bridget’s family shared a close friendship with the McNaughton family, whose daughter with Down syndrome and foster child with autism sparked her lifelong dedication to supporting people with disabilities. This early personal connection, combined with her Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Maine at Machias and Master of Science in Human Service Administration, provides deep insight into both the operational and human dimensions of quality disability services.

 

Bridget’s extensive career has spanned leadership roles at Sunrise Opportunities, Goodwill Industries of Northern New England, Residential Resources, and currently Group Mainstream, where she supports case management and community support services. Her experience in residential services, shared living programs, and staff training brings critical programmatic expertise to board governance.

 

As someone who has served on numerous community nonprofit boards throughout her career, Bridget continues to be a driving force in ensuring Families Matter provides exceptional services while maintaining sustainable growth and meaningful impact.

Donna Phillips

Donna Phillips serves as a Board Member at Families Matter, Inc., bringing the invaluable perspective of a family member whose son with autism has been part of the Families Matter community since 2011. She understands firsthand the difference quality programming makes in the lives of individuals and their families.

 

A lifelong Gardiner resident, Donna previously served as Board Secretary from October 2016 to January 2020 before being elected as a full board member. Her transition reflects her growing leadership within the organization and her deep commitment to ensuring Families Matter continues to provide exceptional services.

 

Donna’s personal experience navigating the disability services system as a parent, combined with her years of board service, provides essential insight into family needs, community expectations, and the real-world impact of board decisions. Her perspective ensures the board remains grounded in the lived experiences of the families who depend on Families Matter’s services, keeping the focus on person-centered programming and family partnership that defines the organization’s culture.

Harrison Wolfington

Harrison Wolfington serves on the Board of Directors at Families Matter, Inc., bringing professional expertise in client relations and business development to his governance role. As Partner/Broker of Your Home Sold Guaranteed Realty – Laflin & Wolfington Team based in Farmingdale, Harrison understands the importance of building trust and supporting clients through significant life transitions.

 

Harrison holds a degree in Psychology from the University of Maine at Orono, providing valuable insight into human behavior and individual needs that aligns with Families Matter’s person-centered approach. His background in psychology, combined with his business acumen in real estate, offers a unique perspective on both the operational and human aspects of serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Christine Fecteau

Christine Fecteau serves on the Board of Directors at Families Matter, Inc., bringing a unique combination of operational insight and diverse professional experience to her governance role. Having worked as Senior Office Administrator for Families Matter for ten years prior to her 2024 retirement, Christine has an intimate understanding of the organization’s daily operations, culture, and commitment to excellence.

 

Christine’s varied career background includes roles as a sales representative for media products, quality control manager for a major RV manufacturer, and real estate agent and office manager. This diverse experience in operations, quality management, and client services provides valuable perspective for board oversight and strategic planning.

 

Originally from Oregon, Christine now calls Readfield, Maine home, where she enjoys spending time in her flower and vegetable gardens, raising chickens and bees, and creating art in various mediums. As a mother of three adult children, she brings both professional expertise and personal understanding of family dynamics to her board service.

 

Christine’s decade of hands-on experience with Families Matter’s operations ensures the board maintains strong connection to the day-to-day realities of serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.

Brad Joslyn

Brad Joslyn serves on the Board of Directors at Families Matter, Inc., bringing years of community involvement and practical problem-solving experience to his governance role. A longtime Manchester resident for the past 32 years, Brad grew up in the Whitefield area and has deep roots in central Maine.

 

Brad retired from UPS as an automotive technician and continues to use his mechanical skills to help family and friends with small engine repairs. His hands-on approach to problem-solving and commitment to helping others extends to his volunteer work as Property Chair at Emmanuel Lutheran Episcopal Church and the Augusta Food Bank.

 

A family man with two grown children and two granddaughters, Brad stays active through racquetball and exercise classes at the YMCA, and enjoys snowmobiling during Maine’s winter months.
